Dr. Dennis J. Murray
Dr. Murray's ancestors came from County Cork and County Mayo and settled in Southern California where he was born and raised. He received a bachelors degree in political science from California State University, Long Beach and a Master's degree and PH.D in public administration from the University of Southern California's School of International and Public Affairs. He and his wife Marilyn have been married for 54 years and she played an active role in helping to build Marist University. They have two children Marian and Michael and five grandchildren: Declan, Charlotte, Connal, Benjamin and Teagan.
As a community leader Dr. Murray has been involved with most of the major community organizations in the region. He has served as a member of numerous boards, including the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library Board, Vassar Brothers Hospital Board, and the Greenway Conservancy fir the Hudson River Valley. In 2011 Dr. Murray was appointed as Co-Chair of New York State's Mid Hudson Regional Economic Development Council.
The Hudson Valley magazine described Dr. Murray as one of the 35 most influential people in the history of the region along with the Vanderbilts, Roosevelts and Rockefellers.
Please come and welcome Dr. Murray as the 2026 Grand Marshal at the Emerald Ball on February 21st, 2026 at the Elk's Lodge #275 on Overocker Road.
